March 2006 Update
Ugandan Elections & Challenges Ahead
For many months we have been making preparations for the presidential,
parliamentary, and local government elections. We are happy to report
that only a few instances of violence was reported. President Musevini
was re-elected for his third 5 year term. He has been leading this
country since he came to power in 1986.
Please continue to pray for the government and people of Uganda
as the opposition is challenging the results citing instances of
voter irregularities, tampering and intimidation. There are also
many challenges ahead for the president this term. Significant power
outages, corruption, loss of foreign investors, issues in northern
Uganda as well as strained relationships with our neighboring countries
is just a few of those challenges.
Guest House Activities
George and I continue to stay busy at the guest house. Many of
our visitors have been FRM missionaries making preparations for
the work that is beginning in Kitgum. Please pray for Pastor James
Olal, his wife Helen and there two children Sam and Susan (CC Nimule,
Sudan). James and Helen have been staying with us for some time
as doctors are trying to find the cause of Helen's health problems.
George continues to work on the vehicles and fixing things around
the guest house. There is always something that needs repaired or
replaced.
We are diligently working to get the architectural and structural
drawings completed for the guesthouse expansion before leaving for
furlough. Pray that the local government will approve the plans
quickly.
Much of our efforts in March focused on making preparations for
a team coming in April to minister in Kitgum. Please pray for them
as they are considering if this is where the Lord would have them
serve as long term missionaries. This past week we sent a 4 ton
truck loaded with needed food and supplies to Kitgum. Pray that
the Lord will open doors for ministry opportunities in April and
Lord willing, the purchase of property for CC Kitgum. Pray also
that the Lord will raise up a shepherd for His flock in Kitgum.
